This January, make a resolution to get out there and be active! Politically active, that is.
It’s been a bit of a rough year for women’s equality. Though we’ve had some victories that shouldn’t be minimalized, many of us have listened as a presidential candidate normalized sexual assault, watched twitter users mock female voters with #repealthe19th, and have become increasing uneasy about the government that will be leading our country in 2017.
If you’re fed up and ready to take action, we’d like to invite you to be a part of a national movement, the Women’s March on Washington. Born out of the frustration one grandmother felt after learning the results of this year’s election, the march expects to draw up to 170,000 supporters of women’s rights- many traveling across the country- to the streets of Washington DC the day after the presidential inauguration.
From the organizers:
“Why are we marching? Because the rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us. We will march in numbers too great for administration to ignore on their first day in office. We march and stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families - recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.“
The Minnesota Women’s March will show our solidarity with our sisters in DC, and will take place on Saturday, January 21st from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the State Capitol.
Follow this link for all the details on the Minnesota Women's March and to RSVP to let organizers know you’re planning to attend.
If you are not local to Minnesota, check for sister marches in your area using this link.
Many women are preparing for the march by preparing signs and slogans, or even knitting a “pussy hat” (we love the pussy hat project!).
We’d like to help outfit you with a sassy, statement tee as well. If you’re planning to attend the Women's March - use code WMARCH10 when placing an order to receive 10% off (we suggest checking out any of our Equality, Make Herstory, or Feminist designs)!
MY SISTER will also be donating 10% of proceeds from each WMARCH10 sale to the Women's March.
We’re in this together, and we don’t want anyone to have to attend alone… if you’re planning to attend but don’t have a group to go with, we’d like to invite you to join the MY SISTER crew!
The MY SISTER Crew will be meeting at 10:00am at Saint Paul College in Lot E (as shown on picture), off Concordia Avenue. Look for the "MY SISTER together we march!" signs.
