We’ve teamed up with Proof Public and four survivors to bring you four incredible letterpress posters (you can purchase your very own, here). Each survivor selected the message, typeface and colors for their unique design to include on a limited edition poster. After a demonstration from the very talented staff at Proof Public, the survivors got to work creating each print by hand. The process was beautiful, fun, and left everyone feeling great at the end of the day. Letterpress has been around since the 15th century and is done the old fashioned way by using ink, iron, wood, lead, and shoe leather to create a unique design every time. Because of the historic equipment and the nature of letterpress, expect each print to come with its own inclusions and imperfections.
We made a short video to showcase the process of letterpress printing and how each print was made:
The messages on each print celebrate self-love and sisterhood and are perfect to give as gifts or hang on your own wall, sending a clear message of empowerment! The end result was these dare-we-say four magical prints (click on photo to purchase):
The survivor who made the "Love the Lady in the Mirror" poster said, "it took me over 54 years to love the lady in the mirror." It was a powerful moment and we're so glad that she had the opportunity to put her feelings into this piece.
A special thank you to each survivor, and Morgan and Elana at Proof Public! More about their mission: “We create poster art and other printed media that amplifies marginalized voices, engages the community in a dialogue about issues that matter, and builds community resiliency in the face of hate and violent white supremacy.”
To date, MY SISTER has funded over 3,100 hours of survivor-employment.
