We’re here to empower sex trafficking survivors and crush the systems that exploit girls and women. By funding job training and employment opportunities we support our sisters as they take back their lives. With every item sold, we’re arming survivors with a chance. With every item worn, we’re making it known we won’t back down.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
This is our “official” mission statement. But what does it mean? How are we backing it up? Many companies offer seemingly blanket mission statements that leave customers confused and questioning where true intentions lie. At MY SISTER, we want you to be confident that your purchases are going toward a great cause.
WE FUND SKILL TRAINING & EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR SURVIVORS THROUGH OUR NONPROFIT PARTNERS.
We’re partnering with GEMS to help fund their thriving survivor employment program. They have many survivors in leadership positions at their nonprofit, and the funds donated by MY SISTER will help support and grow these opportunities. We will also be working with them to provide training for our staff as we grow our internal survivor employment programs.
We are partnering with The Link to help fund the creation of a life skills program for survivors of trafficking and sexual exploitation. Other funds from MY SISTER will be utilized solely for providing employment within their organization for survivors.
WE PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT MY SISTER FOR SURVIVORS.
MY SISTER works to provide employment opportunities for survivors wherever we can. We offer everything from part-time employment at workshops where survivors do things like write messages on our tags, all the way up to full-time employment. Learn more about why we feel that creating jobs is so important, here.
EDUCATE COMMUNITIES: MY SISTER shares the latest research and statistics from our nonprofit partners and leading industry experts like Polaris Project across our social channels and through blog posts. Stay up to date here.
EMPOWER THE POPULATION: Empowerment is a critical part of the aftercare process for survivors, and we believe that creating jobs is one way we can help empower (see more below). Additionally, we believe in empowering our local, national, and international communities with positive messages of self-love and independence, as well as serve as a resource to educate people on how they can make an impact through involvement.
STATEMENT-MAKING APPAREL: Our apparel items feature bold statements that are meant to start conversations surrounding sex trafficking. Our shoppers often reach out to us saying that they get stopped on the street by complete strangers wanting to learn more about what their shirt is all about--and we love it!
ETHICAL SOURCING: Ethical sourcing is extremely important to us, because sweatshops have ties to labor and sex trafficking. We ensure that all of the products we sell are exploitation-free. Learn more about our sourcing process here.
